Dr. Kin Kariisa

Biography:

A businessman, media proprietor and a philanthropist, Dr. Kin Kariisa is The Chief Executive Officer of Next Media Services, the holding company for NBS TV, Nile Post, Sanyuka TV, Next radio, Salam TV, Next Communication and Next Productions and a host of other companies. NBS TV is arguably the leading current affairs station in Uganda as of today.

Dr. Kin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics from Makerere University, Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Huazong University in China, Honorary PhD in exemplary community service from the United Graduate College, Texas US, MBA from United States International University, Nairobi, Kenya.

Kin did his PhD research in Computer Security and Identity Management at Security of Systems Group, Radbond University in Nigmegen, Netherlands. He previously served as a lecturer of e-Government and Information Security at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda and Radbond University in Netherlands.

Kin did his post graduate courses in Strategic Business Management, Strategic Leadership Communication and Strategies for Leading Successful Change Initiatives at Harvard University, Boston USA. For his primary education, Kariisa attended several schools in Ruhaama before joining Gombe Secondary School in Mpigi for his O’ level. In the final UNEB exams, he was not only the best student in the school but also the best in mathematics in the whole country in O-level in 1994.

Other current and previous roles played by Dr. Kin Kariisa:

• Lecturer of e-Government and Information Security to graduate students at Makerere University, Kampala and Radbond University in the Netherlands

• Director of Eco Bank Uganda Limited, one of the largest banks in Africa

• Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters, an umbrella industry association for all Television, Radio and online broadcasters in Uganda.

• Chairman of Board of Directors of Nile Hotel International, that owns the leading hotel in Uganda, Kampala Serena Hotel.

• Chairman of Board of Directors of Soliton Telmec Uganda, the leading telecom company in Optic fibre business managing over 80% of optic fibre in Uganda.

Kin and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Dr. Kin Kariisa has over the years championed a number of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives through his Kin Group Foundation and other related companies in which he has a controlling stake. Some of the notable initiatives are:

Partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board and Mulago hospital to help children with heart disease to create a platform to raise funds for 5 treatment of the affected children. This was successful with over UGX. 30million collected.

In collaboration with the Sickle Cell Association, embarked in the sickle cell anaemia awareness campaign.

Championed a national awareness drive to plant trees to help preserve the environment dubbed 31 million trees in 2010 across the country.

Helped raise hundreds of millions of shillings to construct several places of worship and schools.

Generously contributed to building the Kariisa Foundation Library at Ruhaama Secondary Schools. This will be the largest library in western Uganda.
